This wooden shelter recaptures the form of early California barns of the
1900-1930 era. Constructed in 1984, the structure houses the trolley restoration
projects of the
California Trolley and Railroad Corporation
. Six historic trolleys were restored and refurbished to run on the downtown
Transit Mall loop; at present, because of city budget constraints, the cars
run only on a limited basis. Two trolley cars run on History Park grounds,
with plans in progress for trolley tracks linking all of Kelley Park. Volunteers
have restored and are working on a number of other historic vehicles.
Stop in and see the horse drawn street car, trolley cars, antique vehicles
and the railroad inspection car, and let the volunteers show you around. On
Saturday and Sunday afternoons (12:00 - 4:00 pm), trolleys operate on the
tracks within the History Park grounds. They also operate for special events
held by History San José and for educational
programs for school children. Operation of the trolleys for large groups
can be arranged by calling History San José at (408)287-2290.
