Andrew P. Hill was a renowned local photographer and savior of the Big Basin
redwoods. The Hill House, originally located at 1350 Sherman Street, was
his home from 1898 until his death in 1922. Andrew P. Hill was also an artist,
and two of his paintings from the Historical Museum collection are on display
at the San José City Council Chamber.
The Andrew P. Hill House was moved to the grounds of the San
José Historical Museum on Sunday, February 9, 1997. The
Hill House is sponsored by the
Victorian Preservation Association (VPA)
who are currently restoring it for Museum exhibition use. Phase
I restoration, which includes a basement foundation, roof repair and exterior
improvements, is essentially complete.
