Holly Brand, Crushed Hawaiian Pineapple, California Packing Corporation, San Francisco, California, U. S. A.

  • Object Name: Label
  • Description: Pineapples have long been a symbol of hospitality and welcome. Holly Brand Crushed Pineapple was most likely sold during December to be used in special Christmas pineapple cakes and salad. Fruit, especially tropical fruit, was a great luxury and saved for special occasions like Christmas. The California Packing Corporation (later known as Calpak) was formed in 1916 as the result of the merger of the California Fruit Canners Association, the Central California Canneries, Griffen & Skelley, and the J.K. Armsby Company. California Packing Corporation sold its products under a number of proprietary and distributive labels, including their premium brand, Del Monte. In June 1967, the company name was officially changed to the Del Monte Corporation. This label was printed by the Muirson Label Company of San José. Located on Stockton Avenue, Muirson was the only label-printing operation in the Santa Clara Valley from its founding in 1914 until its closure in 1970.
