Hand drawn Map of Santa Clara Area, c. 1846.

The area called “El Potrero de la Mission” is the land once used by Mission Santa Clara for pasturage; by 1846 it was the property of James Forbes.  It stands between the Alameda connecting the mission to the pueblo of San José and the Guadalupe River.
