Wayne Jiang paints from his daily life, and for nineteen years, his subject matter was San José. He moved to San José from Guangzhou, China in 1987 and by painting his daily life, his viewpoint is one that merges contemporary American and Chinese culture.
Commonplace objects such as a table set-up at a pho noodle restaurant or memorabilia on a mantelpiece are transformed into reflective still lifes. His work is infused with a strong sense of the present moment and a deeply personal sense of place.
Jiang will present an informal talk on his work in January; details are forthcoming.
