Maria Pereira, the ranch cook in the 1930s, immigrated to America from Portugal in the 1920s. She traveled to the US accompanied only by her five children. Her oldest, Mary Pereira Machado, was the cook on the ranch in the 1960s and early 1970s. From left to right: Joe Pereira, Mary Pereira Machado, Marie Machado, and Maria Pereira.
